  • Do creditors ever come to your house?

Right now, I have about 6 creditors calling me (for bills that are ALMOST 30 days late), but so far I have not answered or returned their calls. I am going to work on finding a BK lawyer and put them on a retainer before I try to talk with the creditors. Yet in the meantime, I was wondering if anyone has ever had creditors actually come out to your house looking for you and or talking with your neighbors to try to find you until you actually talk with them? If so, about how late were you on your bill(s) (while never talking with them on the phone) before they actually physically came to your house looking for you?

They could, but almost 30 days late probably won't trigger that kind of response yet. They have plenty of other people much later these days to worry about first.

Direct creditors can come to your house or place of employment to try to connect with you. It is usually not cost effective to do so.

If the debt is owed to the IRS, they can also come to your house or place of employment. Again, not usually cost effective.

Collection Agencies cannot legally do so; they are bound by law to work within the FCRA rules. You can write them an put a stop to any behavior that is outside those rules. Harrassment is outside those rules.

Nobody external to you (ie your neighbors) is bound to answer any questions about you, unless it is a legal entity coming to their door (ie police) with the proper showable credentials. My response to any non-police about anything concerning any of my neighbors, would probably be along the lines of "I do not know" ; my response to police may differ, depending on what I do know.
