the fat free stuff is terrible I will admit but the ligth isn't so bad, I like it, and my hubby does too, hubby is also a very picky eater it took me a long time just to get him to try it and he doesn't mind it!

Store brands get you by, but only when the quality is equal to or better than the name brands.

Toilet paper is expensive enough. Yikes! Buy Scott for a little more and it will last you twice as long. Coke, Pepsi speak for themselves, but if it for mixers, you could get by with the store brands fizzys.

Laundry soap is another item. Spend a little more for a name brand and it will go farther. Thre are many brand names out there not as expensive as Tide that clean well and leave clothes looking fabulous.

Finally, store brand or discounted cosmetics reek havoc with your skin. It's not worth the low price. Stick with the better brands, especially with foundations, powders and mascaras.

We buy generic whenever it is cheaper- except for two things-
mac and cheese HAS to be Kraft
            Cola HAS to be Coke!

I always buy generic when avaiilable.

Having spent a career in marketing, i can tell you that the slick ads and nice packaging has nothingn to do with quality. Quality will vary, of course, but that's something you should judge by taste, not be appearances of the package.

I have no problems with most generics, but there are a few brands I'm loyal too...

                Coca Cola
                Heinz Ketchup
                Hellman's Mayo

I cannot think of a brand I have to buy because it is better. We do not drink soda (God did not make it, He made water - that is what our body needs, only what God gave us). We do have coffee and tea. Milk too.

I do a few items generic, but not many. Butter and cream cheese are the only two things I can think of off hand.

I buy mostly generic, although there are a few items because of taste that I won't trade off for. I had tried my grocer's softened cream cheese with chives and onions and found it to not taste as good as the more national brand did. You have to try the products.

There are some generic products that don't make a difference especially if you are cooking with them, such as tomatoes, etc.

                        Grocery budget

I am not addicted to any brand and can use any brand for a trial. I also wait for sale time where you get branded stuff at a lower rate. I frequently visit departmental stores where you buy things at a wholesale rate and get huge discounts on products. This way you save money and get some benefits too.
