  • Cheaper ground beef

Ususally when round roast or brisket go on sale, they are cheaper than ground beef. Instead of getting ground beef, get the beef that is on sale, and ask the butcher to ground it for you. The butchers rarely (if ever) charge for this service.

    Re: Cheaper ground beef

I remember as a youngster my mother hooking up some contraption on the counter top and grinding up the meat herself. I also seem to remember her throwing onions and other things with it.

We started shopping at Aldi's and we found that their meat is consistently half the price of the meat at Walmart. Or we have a local butcher shop/meat market that is also pretty cheap and they have extremely fresh meat. It also helps to try to plan a couple vegetarian meals every week - pasta or homemade pizza.

When my dil's mother was visiting her, she made hamburgers by adding crumbled bread and onions. They were delicious and made the ground chuck go around. She said that she did that for Salisbury steak as well. When I make Macaroni and Beef I only add a 1/2 lb of Ground Chuck. It tastes the same.

Ground meat adds a lot of flavor to the dish as their juices also gets cooked with the dish. We had prepared momos with meat filling and it was a hit.

i stay away from hamburger meat ever since pink slime, especially fast food hamburgers procured from china.... ok if you grind yourself

The latest food scandal in China is spreading fast, dragging in U.S. coffee chain Starbucks, Burger King Worldwide Inc and others, as well as McDonald's products as far away as Japan. McDonald's Corp and KFC's parent Yum Brands Inc apologized to Chinese customers on Monday after it emerged that Shanghai Husi Food Co Ltd, a unit of U.S.-based OSI Group LLC, had supplied expired meat to the two chains. On Tuesday, Starbucks said some of its cafes previously sold products containing chicken originally sourced from Shanghai Husi, a firm that was shut down on Sunday by local regulators after a TV report showed staff using expired meat and picking up meat from the floor to add to the mix.
