  • Don't fear ethnic markets!

I am lucky to have a number of Ethnic food markets in my immediate area. Many people seem to stick their noses up at them; I suppose its fair. Goat heads in the Lebanese market, and whole chickens in the Asian market aren't always the nicest greeters.

However, after exploring I've noticed that these small markets tend to consistently have some of the very best deals I've been able to find. The Asian market offers the cheapest price on tofu (I lean heavily towards a vegetarian diet), around 1.50 for 3-4 pounds bulk. The Indian market offers extremely low prices on spices, as well as rice and dried beans.

The Lebanese market charges a fraction of the price for fruits and veggies. They're not always the nicest quality, but they're perfect if you're going to use them the same day.

Give the places a shot if you have access to them - you'll be amazed what you can find.

I agree with you here; I love the Korean and Mexican markets around where I live. Great deals, fresh, delicious cheap ready-made food, tons of variety.
