Soy milk is nutritionally close to cow's milk. It naturally has about the same amount of protein (though not the same amino acid profile) as cow's milk. Natural soy milk contains little digestible calcium as it is bound to the bean's pulp, which is insoluble in a human. To counter this, many manufacturers enrich their products with calcium carbonate available to human digestion. Unlike cow's milk it has little saturated fat and no cholesterol, which is a benefit.

Soy milk is promoted as a healthy alternative to cow's milk for reasons including:
    • Source of lecithin and vitamin E
    • It is safe for people with lactose intolerance or milk allergy
    • Contains far less saturated fat than cow's milk
    • Contains organic chemicals that may possibly be beneficial to health.

I really like silk but will sometimes drink 8th continent. Like the very vanilla and the chocolate and they make great smoothies. The lite version is also good. I like it because it lasts much longer than cow milk which spoils if not drunk soon after opening

I agree it tastes more like full fat homogenized milk. If you have a source of soybeans and a soymilk maker you can make your own for a very low cost per gallon.

I like to mix up my milk, just to keep things interesting, and I've heard that it's better for your body to keep a varied diet. Fresh soy milk sounds awesome, and you're even getting options in flavoring - wow! I drink all the milks - soy, cow, rice, hemp, almond, coconut - and I think the soy, almond and cow are my favorites. I've used all kinds of milks in recipes, and they all seem to work ok to me - it's all about what you are used to, and if you are picky, though I wouldn't recommend using vanilla or sweetened anything in, say, mac and cheese, lol. Hope you love it!

Well no doubt that soy milk is best for health. It has lot of benefits. It provides energy to our body. I have used soy milk many times. I suggest everyone to drink it. Thanks everyone for sharing your ideas.

We drink both soy milk and regular cow's milk. We predominantly use the vanilla flavored soy milk to use instead of creamer in our coffee. It is more expensive than cow's milk, but cheaper and better for us than coffee creamer. Occasionally, we will use soy milk for our oatmeal or cereal (quite a bit more rich and flavorful that way).

Soy milk is mostly used by vegans, people who don't want to drink cow milk. If you don't care about the ethical part, I would say it's a lot healthier too.

I have been dairy-free for about 7 years (and much healthier!) Buy a soymilk maker and you will save youself even more money. I also have a vitamix blender in which I make nut milk--very easy and very healthy!

BTW, for those who think cow's milk is healtheir than soymilk watch "Forks Over Knives". The scientific research begs to differ.

i actually drink almond milk. i find that i like it better than soy. although i understand that if you're allergic to nuts then you would stick to soy instead of almond milk.

It's good. To some extent it's better than cow's milk.

I drink almost no milk, and almost threw up tasting soy milk. I'd rather go 100% dairy free when it comes to milk: no meals I make or eat really depend upon milk. The rare exception is a slpash of half-and-half in my coffee...haven't found a nondairy substitute that cuts it, and could give up milk in a heartbeat.

Now cheese, on the other hand...

My sister is actually lactose intolerant so I know all about this stuff! I didn't like the slight bitterness that came with the soy milk, but I got used to it eventually. We were buying both soy and cow milk for a long time, but my mom read something about how unhealthy it was to keep drinking cow milk and switched us to 100% soy. So dumb. Needless to say, I still drink cow milk... it's awesome. And having a young child means there is always milk in the fridge.
