I don't know if anyone else is interested but I called foodsaver yesterday because my foodsaver stopped sealing bags. I talked with the cs person. She agreed that the heat tape was not replaceable therefore my foodsaver is dead. I said, "Well, I will have to start watching garage sales." She said, "Well, you might be interested in our reconditioned 1050.
She went on to tell me that the machines are returned to the company after there are large sales like at Kohl's and all the inventory is not sold. The machines are actually new and never used but they did not sell during a certain promotion. Considering that I had a 550, a 1050 is a huge jump up. The CS person said they are now in the 2000 series. Anyway, the price was $35!! plus s/h $8.50 + tax. My total was $46.81. I think I got a great deal.
The last foodsaver lasted me about 5 years but I put up 50 pounds of fish, a couple of deer, turkey jerky, plus all the ordinary household stuff every year. I can not live without one at this point. I think the lowest price I have ever seen in any store is $85 for one of the small models. HTHS
