  • Any Way To Make Money Off Trumps Impeachment?

Its looking like the Democrats have enough votes to impeach Trump, and its probably going to take a few weeks.

Are there any ways to make money off this process?

I know there tends to be more stock market volatility, but its not clear to exactly how to get a decent return from whats going on with the White House.

JUST A REMINDER THAT POLITICAL COMMENTS WILL BE DELETED. Feel free to address the financial aspect of James' question though.

Volatility is certainly going to continue. The stock market hates uncertainty. So if you're a trader, there's probably good money to be made if you make some successful bets.

VIX? Is that a vanguard fund?

            Volatility index.
It basically is a gauge of market volatility.

It will often spike on bad news. (Attack on an oil field, impeachment, etc.)

Ignoring the counting of chickens prior to their hatching...

My personal philosophy is merely the same as it has been for a while -- build up cash, and wait for the crash.

But yeah, the VIX is probably a decent bet. Conversely, basic goods -- stuff that is essential in daily life regardless of politics and chaos. Probably won't shoot up, but it would likely hold steady in the face of volatility.

(clearly, my investing philosophy isn't that of a gambler...I much prefer to have a good, solid footing than to toe up to the cliff hoping to fly.)

Not a bad idea, but there is probably already a ton of competition. Today, with online shops and Print On Demand services, it is super easy to get into that business. The only thing you need is the design. You upload it and RedBubble or TeePublic or a similar site takes care of everything else for you. They will slap your design on t-shirts, mugs, backpacks, mouse pads, window clings, and a dozen other items and send you the proceeds. Years ago, you actually needed to buy and stock inventory and hope you sold it so there was some barrier to entry.

Buy ammo and guns. Every time it appears that the Dems are going to gain power, sales of guns and ammo spike dramatically.

if he does get impeached, short selling the market is the move to make.

A reminder folks. NO POLITICAL COMMENTS!

James asked a reasonable question. IF Trump gets impeached, where might there be investment and other money-making opportunities.

Like "You're Fired!" written across a picture of his face?

I think you would need a strategy for both impeached but not removed (more likely) and impeached and removed (less likely).

The only thing I can see is correctly shorting markets; as with any short-term strategy timing is everything and you have to call it just right. If you wait until we actually know if he is being impeached or not, then it's too late to make a move because that knowledge is quickly priced in.

If you're looking for a play on current events, then it may be more profitable to look for stocks that recently got beaten down due to the Coronavirus.
