And people who have had COVID still need the vaccine, but it's recommended that they wait 90 days after their infection.[/QUOTE]

I didn’t know they still need the vaccine. I mistakenly thought that the natural antibodies they develop is just as good as the vaccine.

I'd like to understand the logic behind this statement.

Short story: the vaccine produces a much stronger immune response, with higher antibody levels & longer persistence, than is offered by a natural infection.

However, the natural infection certainly does offer some of that immune protection, which is why the recommendation is for people to wait at least 90 days after infection to get the vaccine, to let the infection's antibodies go down enough to still trigger a new immune response to the vaccine.

surprised to hear this as we were vaccinated and told criteria was recovery and not to wait unless treated with antibodies during active illness - which we were not. Got vaccinated about 25 days after diagnosis.

Seems to also be what CDC is recommending as well?

I’m glad we did though as we also needed to travel and didn’t want to take any risks.

also where we live went for natural herd immunity and second time infections did start occurring more often at the 1 year mark. And while we had a high level of infection we never saw a big slow down in spread compared to other regions. Wouldn’t recommend.

Is mixing different brands of vaccine smart to do?
Seems like some backyard chemistry experiment stuff there.

It was probably more anecdotal but people vaccinated close to when they had been sick seemed to be getting more significant vaccine reactions. It wasn't contraindicated. It was just recommended. It was also partially to conserve vaccine early on when supplies were limited. The folks who had COVID had natural protection at least for a few months so better to use the vaccines for those who had no protection.

And, here we are with mask mandates again. We have the unvaccinated to thank for this one. I get that the CDC is trying to do right by all, but I'm ready for Darwin to take over at this point. If you choose not to get the vaccine, you do so at your own risk.

Unfortunately those choosing to not get vaccinated don’t just put themselves at risk. They risk the health of everyone around them too.

Let's set children under 12, and the truly vulnerable, gently aside for a minute, because they still have risk. Although, in children, most who get covid are minimally ill or are asymptomatic. The vulnerable should already know to take extreme precautions, and stay home.

The latest wave of infections are from the paragons of "personal responsibility" who choose not to get vaccinated. They've been asked, told, and bribed with food, booze, drugs, and time off work, not even mentioning the fact that public health agencies are begging to give them the vaccine, for free. Many of these people effectively dragged out the pandemic at very serious human and economic cost, the latest numbers being the most compelling evidence of their stupidity, and unwillingness to help.

For vaccinated people, the risk of serious illness or death is a number close to zero. So I'm done, out of F's to give. I'm vaccinated. I will absolutely comply with mask mandates out of deference to the CDC and good providers. But I feel ZERO grace towards people who choose not to get vaccinated. Although vaccines are not without risk, they are *remarkably* safe. At this point, I hope insurers treat the unvaccinated with a steep surcharge or denial of benefits if they get seriously ill with covid. We cannot continue doing this to our healthcare providers or continue to pummel an already broken, struggling healthcare system. We have a few plague rats in our extended family, and they know if they see me, they better run.
                        History will judge the complicit.

Finally, someone that gets it. If you're vaccinated, you have nothing to worry about. No reason to concern yourself with those who choose not vaccinated. Its as simple as that. If you're vaccinated, the chance of death is near zero. Go live your life. Turn off the news. Stop living in fear. Your life can resume back to normal with the exception of wearing a mask.

Im not sure why those who are vaccinated cannot figure this out. Baffles my mind.

I'm just annoyed that it's becoming necessary again. I'll wear the stupid mask when I'm asked to, and if/when CDC recommends an additional round of vaccination, I'll get it. But that's only out of respect for others -- not some deluded sense of obligation or fear. I have almost zero personal concerns about COVID at this point, and I'm aggravated that people are being so selfish (read: stupid & egotistical) as to drive this lunacy back on to us all.

DoD just issued a quasi-return to the mask mandate, though it's for a weird/unclear caveat about only being required in locations with "high transmission rates" or something to that effect, without specifying what that meant or what definitive source could be referenced. At least in the military, unclear guidance is the bane of our existence, because you always seem to end up wrong no matter what....... Thanks, boss.....

Im not sure people are in fear of the vaccine. People just dont want to get it, or need to get it. We already know its not a death sentence. A fraction of 1% of people who get it die. People arent afraid anymore. How many people skip the flu vaccine every year? Are they afraid of that shot too? Not really, they just dont care. Im not sure why everyone feels its necessary for 100% of the world to be vaccinated. Its BS, fueled by the media. If you're vaccinated, you're good to go. Again, turn off the news. Its warping everyones mind.
