  • Ask For A Discount If The Packaging Is Damaged

If you're grocery shopping, and you see the packaging on something you want to buy has been damaged, consider buying that item. Nobody wants to buy stuff that has damaged packaging, but the reality is that most of the time food inside the packaging is just fine.

The reason you should consider buying damaged packaging is the store will often give you a discount on it. You can ask the cashier or the customer service desk. Both of them will probably knock a little off the price.

I've done this at Home Depot.
You can sift through the cull lumber pile if you just need a few small pieces of wood for a project.
It saves you from buying the whole 8 foot stick and will save you a few dollars.

Guys - wanted to bump this and follow up. This tip actually works.

I was at my local Kroger last night - stocking up on groceries. I spotted like three boxes of decent pasta that had damaged packaging. The pasta itself was fine, just the boxes were a little bit crushed. So, I grabbed all three and put them in my cart. Here is what they looked like:

As you can see the boxes were just a little bit crushed, the pasta itself was fine.

Then I asked the checkout guy for a discount on the pasta and ...he gave it to me. I got like half off each of the damaged boxes.

its not a ton of money, but its still half off, which I will take all day long.
