  • Instead of wedding favors...i want to donate to my local SPCA...

And I want to donate $1,000.

Do you think it is better just to hand them a check or should I purchase $500 worth of supplies that they have on their wish list (food, crates, blankets, cleaners)...and then give them a $500 check with it?

I like to know where my money is going...but I don't know if shelters get a better deal on things anyway. Hmm.

depends on if you would rather buy the 'stuff' or donate the cash...that and how well they spend money...I don't know anything about SPCA but you can look it up on the BBB to see how they will treat your cash.

You could also call and ask them.

I would think if they are non-for-profit, they at least get things tax free. Some places may give them a discount as well.

I'd think cash. That way they can allocate it to budgetary needs. They may be long on dog food this month, but need money for rent, water or light bill or some other need. Maybe they get vet care donated but need cash for the vaccines themselves. I vote cash.

i was thinking of just putting a ribbon across each plate and printed on the ribbon would be, "In lieu of favors, a donation has been made in your name to the SPCA"....what do you think?

Maybe by now you have had your wedding but I would not do the ribbon as a retired wedding coordinator and having a daughter in law that is one. There are people who do not care about your charity no matter the choice it sort of comes across as look how good I am.
IF you have had your wedding and did do this this you have not had a breach of wedding etiquette just chalk up this post as my being late.
                  Blessing on your marriage.
