Day 70 - 42 weeks to go

August 5th, 2018 at 09:18 AM by Tina

I got given a free ticket to a concert by the Returned Servicemens's choir. Good hearty singing, fine soloists, all ending in a stirring rendition of The Battlehymn of the Republic. Normally when I go to a concert I'll treat myself to a glass of wine in the interval (I only drink on special occasions) but it cost $10, so I passed.

$9.40 spent on food this week. Left in my envelopes:
food $10
misc $90
medical $148
change dish 90 cents
bus card $16.20
mta vouchers $80

No Spend Win

August 4th, 2018 at 07:47 PM by North Georgia Gal

For a few months now, I have been waking up around 4:00 and am just wide awake. So I have been getting out of bed and coming out and inevitably end up working on my finances. This morning I searched for Apps on the Iphone that would make things easier for me, as I often do. I found an app that looked promising. It is free. But in order to have premium benefits you have to pay $11.99 for a years subscription. Ordinarily, I would have done it in a heartbeat, just to see what...

The Well Timed Vacation

August 4th, 2018 at 12:41 PM by Monkey Mama

I don't know if I have ever been happier to get the heck out of dodge.

Just checking in. Will be driving home today.

I questioned our sanity doing a road trip in a small car because DL(13) has had a rough time on the mental health front. Which translates into super moody and not talking a lot of the time. Anyway, it hasn't been all sunshine and roses, but he has enjoyed our road trip 1,000 times more than I would have imagined. So maybe this is just what he needed....

Day 69

August 4th, 2018 at 08:59 AM by Tina

I found a nice pink top in the Orphans Aid shop. The devil posed as an angel - It's only $3! It's for a good cause! - but I resisted and put the $3 in my Trans Siberian tin.

ER Update

August 4th, 2018 at 01:47 AM by Lucky Robin

So on Wednesday DD went to see the doctor and he told us to take her to the ER, that she needed a couple of bags of IV fluid. Meanwhile he started a referral to a gastroenterologist. So I spent 7 hours in the ER with her on Thursday, but they would only give her one bag of IV fluids and they gave her an anti-nausea drug that wasn't working and hadn't been working for the last couple weeks. They also sent a referral to the gastroenterologist, figuring two was better than one,...

Hello! Its been a while!

August 3rd, 2018 at 04:09 PM by Gramma Ray

So much has happened since I last blogged. Where has the time gone! Even though I havent been active here, I have tried to check in on others' blogs.

Hello!

Well, right after I gave notice at work (literally within seconds) I was told that my job was changing and things in our department were changing...and after hearing about this, I reversed my decision to leave. :0 Meaning, I am still at my job. I still plan to transition to my son's business...I am just not sure what...

Projecting August

August 3rd, 2018 at 12:01 PM by Jazzy

It's been up in the air as to whether DH would have to go out of town for 3 weeks again this month, and as of yesterday, it was confirmed. DH leaves on Monday morning to drive to his destination 6 hours away. While there, he won't have to drive and meals are covered. He knows he gets mileage, but we have to check on gas reimbursement. His projected pay for the out of town work will be just over 3k before taxes/deductions to be paid out the week after he returns.

This means,...

Day 68

August 3rd, 2018 at 09:28 AM by Tina

It drizzled all day so I didn't go out. I stayed home and organised my yarn stash. Now all the yarn I have plans for is in project bags with the pattern The rest is sorted by color and weight. It's quite sobering to reflect on the hundreds of dollars I have in yarn, but it gives me hours of pleasure and makes useful things.

New Car Savings, Murphy Strikes Again

August 3rd, 2018 at 07:46 AM by VS-from-oz

I was listing the events that happened each week and keep getting my weeks mixed up, so that's all getting a bit hard! The point is I'm now back in the groove of writing weekly so I'll keep that up without listing each week's number.

Since I wrote last I've been to my post-operation appointment with the orthopaedic surgeon and he believes everything is healing in the way it should, which is great. I've been cleared to drive and resume normal activities within reason but must...

We Live at the ER Now

August 3rd, 2018 at 06:06 AM by Lucky Robin

I spent 7 hours at the ER with my daughter yesterday. DH has taken her back tonight. Over two weeks without being able to hold down her food. This is her third visit in less than 2 weeks. I don't understand their inability to make this stop. It's like they don't even want to try to get to the bottom of it. She says she feels like her body is shutting down and dying. It shouldn't be this hard.

Found out the vertigo is an inner ear infection. Now on antibiotics.

Have a house sitting gig beginning Saturday through the next weekend. Hoping this will but down on my ac here at my house. I am dreading this next bill because it has been so hot and not cooling down at night. The past two nights have been blissfully cool in the morning. I try to sleep with the windows open so the cool air comes in.

Room mate will sign lease tomorrow. Work intefered with signing it before...

No Spend Fail!

August 3rd, 2018 at 01:53 AM by North Georgia Gal

I had put an item in the Icebox on Amazon yesterday.(for those that didn't my post about this, Icebox is a chrome add on that won't let you buy anything for a specified time in order to stop impulse shopping). It came up today as being able to be purchased and went ahead and purchased it. It was right after I hit the complete order button that I realized it was a no spend day! Starting a day earlier than I thought has really messed with me. But I will be right back on track...

CB in the City

Back to Normal

August 2nd, 2018 at 01:42 PM by CB in the City

Thank you for your get well messages!

I am better today, feeling ready to tackle grandma duty again. GS2 is coming over in about a half hour. I vacuumed the house (because he sits on the floor a lot) and now I am bushed!

My BFF's mother has just gone into hospice care. She has been in a facility a pretty long time with dementia, and she no longer recognizes her family. Her oxygen levels have diminished and she doesn't want to eat, so her team decided it was time.

BFF...

Withdrawal from ESA

August 2nd, 2018 at 12:37 PM by Creditcardfree

I know it may seem odd, after just finishing our ESA contributions, but we are now making a withdrawal for our youngest daughter's tuition and housing bill.

I completed the buy order on Tuesday when the market was up and the money, $5,375, was in our account today. This money will cover the room and board portion of her bill (yes, for just one semester!)

Her bill is due on the first day of classes, August 20. The total due is $6,859.20. I did find out that books will not...

Day 67

August 2nd, 2018 at 09:07 AM by Tina

Today was my day to volunteer at the thrift store. They had some nice bags so I bought a black and white striped one for $2 as my old black one is pretty worn. I also put $1 from my misc envelope into my Trans Siberian money tin. Now I have $12.70. It's such a tiny amount to be saving compared to what I need, but I want to get started now rather than wait until all my other goals are met.

No Spend Challenge Update

August 2nd, 2018 at 07:38 AM by North Georgia Gal

So far, I have completed 2 rounds of the No Spend Challenge. One for 3 days and one for 4 days. i didn't budge on either one. Today(Wednesday) was a day off from the challenge so i went to the grocery store. I thought I had one more day before starting the next round, but when I looked at the calendar, I start it again Thursday. I failed to get gas because I thought I had one more day. I am going to have to make an exception for gas because I only have 1/4 tank left. While...

Charity

August 2nd, 2018 at 07:18 AM by mumof2

I have always done what I could for charity throughout my life and although my health isn't great I still do what I can for my 2 best charities.
The first is for a charity that provides meal/water/clothes/showers/clothes washing etc for the homeless...you can pay a certain amount for a day and it provides meals for the homeless...so I do this for my birthday instead of a party...nothing I want or need and my hubby and kids get to spend 3 hours each with me and they plan what we...
