Killed the CVS Deals this Week!

August 16th, 2018 at 08:15 PM by Banker Gurl

Softball is over for the year, so I don't get to town every week like I used to, plus we are going to Vegas in two weeks so I am making sure I get all of my EBs for CVS up to date so I don't have to worry about any of them expiring while I am gone. Found a lot of great deals this week and got all my EBs out to 9/12/18 which gives me lots of time to get them used.

Herbal Essences Bio-Renew (Bought 4)
Regular Price $7.99 Each
Clearanced to $1.74 Each(I had coupons for these,...

My English Castle

Where We're At

August 16th, 2018 at 04:26 PM by My English Castle

Well, I took a look at August's upcoming bills, and tried to face what I think I already knew. It's going to be tight until October 1.

DH got paid yesterday, and will likely have one more reduced check. I'll get a check from my adjunct class on September 1. Although it seems like I've been working all summer on my regular university stuff, my contractual period doesn't start until Monday, and I'm not paid until October 1. But I'll have another adjunct class starting on...

Day 81

August 16th, 2018 at 09:36 AM by Tina

I withdrew my weekly $60 today and then I spent from the misc at the thrift store $5 on 2 skirts, 20 cents on a knitting pattern and $3 on a Greek-English lexicon. I did a course on New Testament Greek some years ago and am getting rusty. Time to ward off dementia by keeping the brain cells active.

I spent another $18 on trash saks (ok, that's more than $20 from misc this week). We have to buy the ones the city council puts out and they keep getting more expensive. User...

Great News on the Jeep!!

August 15th, 2018 at 09:46 PM by Banker Gurl

Well the Jeep is totaled out, so that stinks, but in good news we are getting a lot more back for it then we anticipated!! We bought the Jeep in May 2016 for $5200.00....and insurance valued it today at $5096.33!! So they only show the value went down $100 since we got it 27 months ago! Basically got to drive it for $50 a year! SWWEEEEEEETTTT!!!!

Our ded is $500, but since it was a non-collision accident (deer, rather then another auto, etc.) the ded is only $250, so we...

Back Home -- Briefly

August 15th, 2018 at 08:21 PM by CB in the City

I drove home from Michigan this morning, but tomorrow it's back on the road again to go to the funeral in Indiana.

My stay at my brother's house was lots of fun. Aside from the swimming and boating which we usually do, we also went blueberry picking. I picked 2 1/2 lbs. for $5. My kids took advantage of the dune buggy rides. My brother cooked us great meals, and we also went out to eat for one lunch. I also got to meet my friend P for lunch.

My vacation spending:

$28...

What would you do with $276 million?... or with $351M?

August 15th, 2018 at 04:42 PM by M.I. Clason

Only in El Salvador!
Believe it or not one ex-president was charged with embezzling $301M.. he has been in jail for 2 years now, and the DA´s office has not been able to find the money trail... So, they offered him a deal: he returns $25M, serves 10 years in prison (of which there 2 will be discounted) and walks free... (it seems that, because of the time that has passed, if they didn´t cut this deal, there was a possiblity of him just walking away with the full $301M, don´t...

Changes are Coming

August 15th, 2018 at 12:59 PM by Laura

My time caring for my grandma is coming to an end. Unfortunately, she has had a large decline in the last week. She no longer recognizes her home and is getting feisty because we won't take her home. My aunt found a beautiful assisted living facility. She will be going there September 1st.

I will readjust my September budget. School will be starting, so I am sure by mid September subbing will be in full gear. I am also being given a two week severance.

I will pay the IRS...

Day 80

August 15th, 2018 at 09:22 AM by Tina

Payday. I have decided to make Thursday my shopping day (in case there is a delay in my benefit going into the bank) so will withdraw money and hit the stores tomorrow.

I did give a koha of $1 at the Knit Squad today. We meet at the community rooms and today the community gardens had put a box of leeks there for people to help themselves. I didn't want to be greedy so only took one and made leek and potato soup for dinner which will last me 3 days.

I have been occupying...

WEEK 32

August 15th, 2018 at 07:12 AM by Shiela

Grocery - $32.45, we only needed some stuff.

Second-hand Store – We checked out this store near this Aldi we went to on the week (not our normal Aldi), they were selling CD’s for $1 and I found a little Spanish/English dictionary for $2 and another book. We end up spending $14 there.

It was a quiet weekend.

My First Two Week Meal Plan

August 14th, 2018 at 09:31 PM by Lucky Robin

I think I am really going to like this two week meal planning/shopping business. I just have to plan really well, but if we can stay out of the grocery store I can definitely see the savings adding up. I think next time I will do an even better job, but I am just happy I came under budget and will still be able to have some pretty delicious, varied, spectacular meals.

Day One:
Chicken Fajitas
Tortillas

Day Two
Sirloin Steak
Roasted Potatoes
Zucchini (garden)

Day...

Grocery Spending Tracking

August 14th, 2018 at 09:19 PM by Lucky Robin

So I did my two week shop on Saturday and while I did forget a couple of items like string cheese and butter, I am going to try to make do. I do have cheddar stick cheese, which I don't like as much as mozzarella string cheese, but I still like it so I'll cope. We have 1.5 lbs of Kerrygold butter in the fridge for 10 days. I usually go through 1 lb of butter in a week, so it'll cut close, but I think I can make it. If worst comes to worst I can break out the unsalted butter...

Day 79

August 14th, 2018 at 09:07 AM by Tina

I think I'm mildly addicted to spending. If I go 2 or 3 days without going to the shops I feel antsy and want to go see what there is and buy - something. Usually food but anything just to satisfy the urge. I think it's the power of handing over the money and getting whatever I want in exchange. Most of my purchases are small in dollar terms, but if there's a lot of them they add up. I'm considering having only one spending day a week, where I do all my shopping for groceries...

Grumbly

August 14th, 2018 at 03:27 AM by My English Castle

Well, here we are one week into DH's unemployment and I'm grumbly. Not just at him, but at students, administrators, my new teaching hires, and myself. I think I need an attitude adjustment. Maybe a long workout tomorrow.

DH has been working on finishing his summer class. He's paid until 8-20, so is ready to file for unemployment. I spent the morning getting things for my new hires and their fall semester and the evening finishing the last summer class. In between I...

I got the promotion!

August 14th, 2018 at 03:03 AM by Kiki

After a 90 minute interview last Thursday they called me on my drive home (same day) and offered me the position! I am now a second level program manager. Start date is a little floopy because I have two major projects I want to ensure are finished not leave my team hanging. So I start August 27 but am borrowed back by old program for about 4 weeks, leave for my two weeks of vacation, then start only that position October 3.

They offered the job and I asked for 3 days before...

Busy Week, Meal Plan

August 14th, 2018 at 01:56 AM by Buendia

It's a big week this week! Two-a-day soccer practices, soccer retreat on Thursday, a training session and scrimmage on Saturday. F is over the moon! They are making friendship bracelets after morning practice tomorrow. And there's a parent meeting tomorrow night.

So I am scheduling my work during soccer practices and trying to be efficient. The retreat and scrimmage will give me a lot of time to work, which is good because I am going to miss F so much now that school...

Cruise 3 weeks Away

August 14th, 2018 at 01:07 AM by Laura

Mom found a really good rate for us going from Houston to Galveston and back - $100 cheaper than what she'd previously found.

I bought a new swimsuit and dress for the cruise.

I'm really looking forward to 8 days away from it all.

----
I've applied to 4 jobs in the last month. Today I heard back from one - thanks, but no thanks.

Low unemployment my foot.

We're getting estimates for having some yard work done. 3 summers of mostly being neglected other than mowing...

$20K Update

August 13th, 2018 at 08:10 PM by Banker Gurl

Well the Jeep is totaled. We are still waiting to hear how much we will get back for it. Also our renter in Rental #1 is looking at buying a house which stinks as they have only been in there for a few months. If we don't find someone new right away they would lose their security deposit, but we would much rather have a good renter then have to deal with all of that again.
