More Updates on A Few Topics

November 10th, 2018 at 05:12 PM by Petunia 100

Hello SA types! It's been so long since I posted, a whole lot has gone on.

I did end up having to evict my tenant. Even though he was notified of the date and time that the sheriff's deputies would be arriving to lock him out, he was still there when they arrived. If it were me, I would have been already gone and spared myself the humiliation. The eviction service representative I had hired reported that the tenant informed the deputies that he would be staying until the...

Saturday Morning

November 10th, 2018 at 03:45 PM by CB in the City

I did an out-of-town mystery shop yesterday that turned out to be not such a good idea. The gas and tolls pretty much ate up the fee. And I also ended up buying lunch at Culver's because I was gone so long.

So, I filled the tank for $23, and the lunch was $6. Variables are now at 48%, with 2 1/2 weeks to go.

Part of the mystery shop was reimbursement for a small purchase. I bought something that I will try to sell on eBay. There was nothing I needed for myself.

My...

Money In, Money Out

November 10th, 2018 at 03:26 PM by Creditcardfree

We received basically our entire rent deposit on our last place back. The deposit was $1,800. On move out we needed to top off the propane tank which was for the fireplace only. We used it some in cool fall days, but otherwise it was just the pilot light on all the time. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite empty enough for the propane company to fill without a hefty charge ($45). The propane company was able to tell me based on the amount used the cost to fill up. The landlord agreed...

Day 167

November 10th, 2018 at 08:08 AM by Tina

I have done a poor job of teaching my child frugality. DS wanted some containers to put leftovers in, and I offered him a couple from occasional Chinese takeaway. Instead he took himself off to the supermarket and bought some brand new plastic ones. I suppose I should be glad he is using the leftovers.

I remember my grandmother putting food in bowls covered by a plate.

Praise Report

November 10th, 2018 at 01:59 AM by Amber

Praise report. After paying off the three credit cards 💳 my credit score jumped by 47 points.

I got a revised closing statement and the mortgage will actually be $10 more than I’m paying for rent ($961). I’m thinking that once I close it will actually be less. Correction, this include the escrow.

Other news my idiot brother decided to sue me for the money my dad had in the bank. One I was the beneficiary; two all of it went to legal fees, burial and taxes on the...

Getting started now

November 9th, 2018 at 09:00 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

I keep reading about these atrocious student loans. How people are trying to escape to the jungle. This guy was a philosophy major who owed only $20k Or a teacher who owed once in 2004 $35k but he couldn't pay so he stopped and the interest makes it now $100k+. I'm horrified.

But there are two parts. One a teacher couldn't make ends meet and pay off $35k? Even on a 30 year payment that's a $100/month. Assuming a 15 yeear payment that's a little over $200-300/month. I'm...

OCTOBER 2018

November 9th, 2018 at 06:43 AM by Shiela

This is very late but I’ve been away and got sick since the last day of our holiday. We got back Tuesday afternoon and I have just been trying to recover from it.

So Week 43 and 44 was spent away on our holiday, we went and visited relatives interstate. And then somehow end up getting a camper trailer – that was not planned at all. I will do a separate blog about this purchase and about our holiday later.

October Total = $4,706.26

CAMPER TRAILER = this includes...

Oops!

November 8th, 2018 at 02:02 PM by CB in the City

I did a mystery shop yesterday, rather late in the afternoon. I didn't get my report in until this morning. I had 12 hours to get it in, but I belatedly realized that meant 5 am! I finished up when I got up at 7:30 am, so I was late. That will probably affect payment.

It was a shoe store assignment, and the deal was to get a $35 reimbursement on a pair of shoes. I spent $45. So $10 on a pair of shoes was a good deal. However, now I'm not sure now what I'll get back.

For...

Finally!

November 8th, 2018 at 11:43 AM by Sarah

I can finally access my blog! I was giving up! I had to reset my password since it wouldn't let me use my old faithful one. Oh well.

I just wanted to check in quickly. Baby is due in just over six weeks. I feel like we're pretty organised, although I will double check everything. We've bought most things nearly new. I also found a lot of old baby clothes in the cupboard last week when we were decluttering.

I started Christmas shopping a few months ago. My aim is to now get...

Long Day

November 7th, 2018 at 01:16 PM by CB in the City

I worked the polls yesterday, and it was a long day. I got up at 3:30, so I could be at the site by 5 am. We did not wrap up until 9:45 pm.

I was at a site with two precincts. My precinct had a light turnout, because it was mostly younger college students living in dorms. However, the other precinct, which encompassed the area around the university, brought in tons of first-time voters who were living independently in apartments. It was heartening to see. They stood...

Using up food

November 6th, 2018 at 12:27 PM by Jazzy

I've been feeling much better these past few weeks. While I still don't have abundant amounts of energy, I do have enough to work out a bit most days. I still feel meh towards food and don't like cooking, but I've been forcing myself to focus on using up the stuff in our freezer. Yesterday, I had DH make the last of the frozen potstickers and about half of the remaining bag of spinach/mozzarella ravioli. I brought a bit of the ravioli with me for lunch today. Our fridge is mostly...

The Ongoing Car Saga

November 6th, 2018 at 02:34 AM by My English Castle

Two weeks later, I still have the repair shop's loaner vehicle. The body shop still has my car. We still don't have the accident report from the city. We've been back and forth with the repair shop and have, I think, come to some sort of settlement. The total damage is more than the blue book value of the car, and they offered to either have the vehicle repaired or give us a check for the amount of the repairs.

We've decided to write the car off, but are waiting for them...
