Condo Insurance

December 4th, 2018 at 03:26 PM by CB in the City

Every year my mortgage company asks me to provide proof that my property management company is insuring my condo building. Last year was a disaster. Even though I did everything I could, there were mess ups in communication and the lender charged me $2400 for insurance. Well, more than charged me -- they took it from my savings account. It was finally straightened out, but it was an awful experience.

So this year, when I got the notice again, my stomach tightened up immediately....

A Small Win

December 4th, 2018 at 12:54 PM by Jazzy

Things have sort of gone to the birds over here. It's been really hard to stay financially focused when we're dealing with expecting anxieties, an upcoming deployment, holidays, etc. But we're trying. I did meet one of our goals - the Ashley Furniture card is paid off!

Considering how few of the other 2018 goals we're going to meet, I am proud that we did this one. While we still have funds set aside for the fireplace and car replacement, the deployment's changed those plans....

Such luck

December 4th, 2018 at 12:51 PM by PatientSaver

So, with the year's end approaching, I've been carefully tracking my gross income YTD, for a couple of reasons.

My income has tracked a bit lower than anticipated, and so my gross income from the job as of Dec 1 is only $32,000 with 1 more month to go. My gross would have been $,6500 higher, but I already made a traditional (tax-deductible) IRA contribution.

This is significant, since if I kept my total income (which also includes dividends, capital gains and interest) below...

Christmas Shopping and Raises

December 4th, 2018 at 10:57 AM by Laura

I am done Christmas shopping. I didn't have much to do since I did the Toys R Us haul this summer for the kids. I bought Alexa and a Fire Stick combo for my dad (my son is splitting this with me) and ornaments for my kids. We don't really do gifts for the adults generally, but I cheated a bit.

My bff does a LOT for me, so I wanted to do a gift for her family. I went to the local farmer's type market here (It is HUGE and has everything you can think of including a very large...

Day 191

December 4th, 2018 at 08:16 AM by Tina

Pouring with rain today so I stayed home and ate far too much avocado on toast. In the afternoon it eased off a bit so I dodged over to New World and stocked up on canned and dried legumes because they are a cheap source of protein and I like 'em. nzd10.74.

buying out our car lease

December 4th, 2018 at 05:57 AM by LivingAlmostLarge

Time flies. It's been 3 years already and it's time to buy out our car lease. It's been hard convincing DH but he's finally willing to compromise and has agreed to buying the car. I wanted to buy it 3 years ago but he refused. One of those moments where you just have to compromise.

I always think of imasaver who financed corvettes so they wouldn't buy them so quickly. I feel like the same thing. I leased a car to make DH feel better and pointed out there hasn't been enough...

My English Castle

Replenishing

December 4th, 2018 at 01:50 AM by My English Castle

Our bank balances are looking better. DH and I both got paid on our regular jobs and my adjunct job too. We're still going to have to juggle a little, especially with Christmas and the London trip.

I finally see some light at the end of the term. I should be finished grading everything except final projects by tomorrow. And I plan on a very early night tonight.

We had a comforting meal of leftover Swiss steak tonight. It's one of my childhood favs, and it seemed perfect...

NOVEMBER 2018

December 4th, 2018 at 12:06 AM by Shiela

Total for the month of November is $2,490.82.

We mainly spent it on:

Grocery = we were under budget, spent $236.29. I’ve decided to put $20 in the challenge because we are under this month.

Household Expenses = $500.87, it was mainly for the Skip Hire.

Transport Related = $290.96, DH hasn't been taking the early train and this also includes fuel and the registration for the camper trailer.

Entertainment total = $184.93

Gifts = was high this month because of...

This and That

December 3rd, 2018 at 09:10 PM by CB in the City

I've done two mystery shops since my last post -- one at a restaurant and one at a car dealer.

I went to see "The Favourite" yesterday ($7 for early-bird show) and I'm not sure what to say about it. I think I will say it was both amazing and outrageous. Not quite what I expected, but I'm glad I saw it. I think. Hmmm.

I did a load of laundry yesterday but ran out of quarters, so I ended up hanging everything in my bathroom and on the radiators. They dried pretty well, but...

10% Off Target Gift Cards

December 2nd, 2018 at 08:32 PM by Creditcardfree

Today only. Sunday, December 3, you can buy Target gift cards for 10% off. You can purchase up to $300 worth for $270.

I bought a $40 one for my daughter who requested Target gift card for Christmas. I also went ahead and picked up another one for $100 for our regular shopping. We don't shop there as much as we once did, so I didn't want to tie up too many funds not knowing if we would use them.

I purchased several other gifts online. My shopping is wrapping up pretty fast!...

This & That

December 2nd, 2018 at 04:14 PM by Monkey Mama

Well, I am still completely and utterly exhausted.

Last week was actually amazingly quiet and nice. Until Sunday afternoon when our washer broke. In the middle of a wash. *sigh* So peace and quiet turned into "lugging sopping wet clothes to the laundromat and appliance shopping".

I suppose I should back up. Both our washer/dryer are long past their prime. We've been too cheap/lazy to deal with it. But there is no way in heck we are spending one penny on fixing the...

Old Employer Updates

December 2nd, 2018 at 02:49 PM by Monkey Mama

I was doing a post and it was getting really long, so am separating out the "old work" part.

MM(15) did not get his paycheck timely from my old/forever employer. I think payday was a Friday and he went in Monday (Thanksgiving week) to work because he had the week off of school. His paycheck was not there, but I didn't think too much about it. The rumor (whatever they told MH?) was that they had run out of checks. I didn't think too much about that either.

The latest is...

Escape!

December 2nd, 2018 at 02:30 PM by CB in the City

DS and the grandsons came over yesterday with an Escape game -- actually, I bought it for DS' birthday. We spent a couple of hours trying to figure out how to open the box that held the werewolf antidote. We did have to peek at the hints a few times. It was a good time, and I'm happy to report that none of us turned into werewolves.

In the morning I went to Jewel and bought some onions and peppers and got a free organic candy bar from their MyMixx program. Total cost: $3....

Mortgage Payment Help

December 2nd, 2018 at 10:25 AM by Amber

I have the funds to pay the first mortgage and I’m anxious to do that. My only concern is that 9x out of 10 the mortgage is going to be sold. Should I wait until the 15th of December (due January 1st) to pay it or just send it off now? I believe in paying the bills as soon as they come in and when you have the money. I can actually pay both January and February with a extra principal payment as well.

My mortgage processor informed not to setup auto payments because it would...
