Day 215

December 28th, 2018 at 08:11 AM by Tina

Yay! my visa has finally arrived. Off to India in the New Year.

My sister visited and regifted some of her unwanted Christmas presents to me: a scented candle and a bucket of salted caramel cookies. I don't want them either, so now I must find someone else to regift them too.

What is everyone else regifting from the holidays?

Day 57 YOUF/No Spend Year

December 28th, 2018 at 05:48 AM by Cheryl B.

The third day in a row we have had prime rib, mashed potatoes (tonight DH added egg and made a pancake), green bean casserole and the last of the homemade pumpkin pie and apple tart. Well we are done with that!

Will need to spend a bit of money on Lila, the adopted chihuahua, who is getting an update of some immunizations tomorrow. I think I need the flea/tick/heartworm medicine too. That's going to cost some bucks!

I had physical therapy today and visited my mom afterwards....

2018 Financial Wins and Fails

December 28th, 2018 at 01:10 AM by mumof2

2018 was a hard year healthwise...which added to our financial burden. Our goals were pretty basic for this year...we wanted to stay debt free, not add any more debt at all and to start saving for a house deposit.

WINS
we have no debt
we used the cc once but paid it off in full within 2 weeks
we updated a few things but paid in cash

FAILS
we ended up with no savings due to all the specialists we had to pay for this year...so our $5000 savings plan was a complete failure

our...

And Life Laughs...

December 28th, 2018 at 12:24 AM by klarose

My last post was about how I felt so financially secure... And then the boom dropped.

My husband had severe stomach pain all day yesterday and finally went to the ER. He had an appendicitis and had to have an emergency appendectomy today... Thankfully we caught it before it ruptured, and the surgery went well. He is very tired and sore but home now resting.

The bad news. He is off work for 3 weeks. Thankfully his work was very nice and understanding. I have already submitted...

BFF Watch

December 27th, 2018 at 02:35 PM by CB in the City

I am hoping my BFF will come today. She was planning to come, but she texted me last night that she had a headache. She often cancels plans. I hope this isn't one of those times, but I have a feeling.

The kids are leaving today for Florida and they'll be gone for a week or more. I'll be feeding their cat and cleaning his litter box. The good thing is that DIL told me to PLEASE take the perishable food out of the refrigerator and use it, and I will!

Tomorrow I'm going...

(Very) Tentative Planning

December 27th, 2018 at 01:34 PM by Jazzy

I hope everyone had a nice Christmas. I was managing fairly well until I went to sit at the table and couldn't decide whether to sit at the head of the table (DH's normal spot) or leave his chair open and sit next to it. Once the floodgates opened, it was difficult to stop. DH was able to sort of participate though. He was off, so he Skyped in and watched us open gifts. We were able to broadcast him up on our TV and get all 8 of us into the camera view for him to see everything....

Benefit From Features Of Angular JS

December 27th, 2018 at 10:01 AM by Kelly brown

For any business in this era, it is not easy to keep on making a profit unless it is advanced with modern technology. For every business the online presence and optimisation is much required without which to remain in the market can also prove almost impossible. For modern users, the availability of business on online platform proves much easy and useful, and hence every business is now behind the use of modern technology. Catching Up

December 27th, 2018 at 08:12 AM by Amber

Revisited my budget planner. Noted all bills due on the monthly for January. I’m excited not sure why but I am.

I spent my evening balancing my accounts on MSMoney. I notice the month that I stop tracking was the months I fell off my budget. I’ve set aside Sunday afternoon as my day to enter receipts, update accounts, and plan. I’ve set the alarm to go off that way I have no excuse not to view my spending.

I also noticed that I had deposited and extra $177 to my HOA...

Bonus & Raise

December 27th, 2018 at 12:26 AM by Dido

Today (my last day of work for the year) was the annual compensation adjustment announcement--a 3% raise and a 10% bonus. This bonus is the firm-wide one based on the firm's, not individual performance. Last year we got 20%, but there had been rumors that we wouldn't get anything this year, so 10% is good. It will help towards the debt payoff goal. The bonus comes on 12/31, and then on 1/1, I'll take my RMDs from my inherited IRAs (already set aside in cash back over the summer,...

$20K Update - BIG CASINO WIN!!

December 26th, 2018 at 05:47 PM by Banker Gurl

We had a nice Christmas Day at my MIL's house and one the way home we stopped at the casino that is only about 5 mins from her house. We weren't there too long and we hit this awesome win for over $1000! We played a bit more and then headed home with our pockets full! The holidays have been really terrible missing our babies so it was nice to have a fun surprise and to not think about how sad we are for awhile. Most of our recent savings money went to our home insurance bills...

Christmas & Year-End Accounting

December 26th, 2018 at 12:40 PM by CB in the City

I rose early yesterday morning and good thing! Because my grandson texted me to come over right away, and gift opening proceeded. The boys got lots and lots of stuff; it was crazy. My DIL comes from a background of lavish spending which is only enhanced at Christmas. And my DS is influenced by his father, who spends to impress. It makes for a Christmas which is uncomfortable for me, but it is their lives. I continue to hope they understand my need to be more modest in my...

Day 213

December 26th, 2018 at 08:14 AM by Tina

I am knitting a multicolored prayer shawl out of scraps. It is very satisfying to use the last meter of a skein, then snip off the final 2 inches and drop them in the trash.

(yes I know I could use the mini bits for stuffing toys but I don't do softies)

Merry Christmas 2018, Day 55 of YOUF/No spend year 2019

December 26th, 2018 at 05:57 AM by Cheryl B.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas with those you love.

My daughter, son-in-law, Ally 10, and Pyper 4 all arrived about 10:30. They were so sweet and waited so patiently while I ran to grab my mom from the assisted living facility. It is only about 1.5 miles away. I literally made it in 3 minutes when I was working there.

My husband went to spend some time with widow of his mentor and he stopped and bought her a real at a local restaurant. I told him it was one Christmas...

Long Time No Post - and Merry Christmas!

December 26th, 2018 at 02:43 AM by Sher

I'm still here!

I didn't post much in 2017 or 2018 -- unorganized, unmotivated, and overwhelmed. And yes, for 2 years straight! While I'm still dealing with my overwhelming to-do list (getting better) and my fatigue due to a chronic illness (also improving) and burnout issues (hope to retire from my stressful job in late 2019), my spouse passed away suddenly in April 2018 and I have been trying to adjust to the 'new normal'.

The unexpected shock (apparent heart failure--he...

Merry Christmas!

December 25th, 2018 at 08:28 PM by DK62565

It's hard to believe Christmas is here. So much went into planning and getting things done. I most certainly hope everyone is having a wonderful Christmas and the craziness didn't dampen your holiday.

It's been a melancholy month in between planning for Christmas and doing many other things. We lost four friends. Two shouldn't have a surprise, one was 95 and the other 88, but loss is loss. Then two friends' husbands were taken and our hearts go out to them. It makes me stop...
