my troop update

January 16th, 2019 at 06:45 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

I managed to talk to my troop program manager a woman who works for girl scouts. She had to talk with her supervisor. She said that I am to tell the mother she can no longer drop off her child. She must stay. I must ask her to take the child if she can't stay or another friend or family member can stay with the girl.

As much as she needs this there are other liability issues and things that have to be also considered including the safety of the other children. I have to...

Trying to Get Ahead

Balance Transfer

January 16th, 2019 at 06:20 PM by Trying to Get Ahead

I opened a new credit card with Navy Federal Credit Union for a 0% APR for 12 months.

A year ago, I owed $18,000 on the credit card. I am down to $8,000. My plan is to put my nose to the grindstone and aggressively pay it off by Easter.

It will feel soooo goooood to finally have zero consumer debt.

Screwy Finances and UFMC Day 15

January 16th, 2019 at 06:18 PM by Jazzy

So here I was rolling along in the UFMC when I got an email yesterday that my personal account was below $25. I keep a $100 buffer and had another couple hundred in there allocated to a future CC payment, so I was very surprised. I logged in to the account and saw that I was indeed negative $33 bucks! Fortunately, it was only pending as most of the payments hadn't hit. The culprit was that my Navient student loans (set on IBR) had more than doubled in payment. I didn't receive...

Sleeplessness

January 16th, 2019 at 02:58 PM by CB in the City

I couldn't sleep last night, so I got up and read my email. I found out that I owed $14 to the doctor, so I went ahead and paid that online. Then I saw a notice that some people were getting money back on overpaid taxes. I looked up my record, and I am not one of those people. But I did learn that my first property tax payment will only be $572, compared to $800+ last year. It isn't due till March 1, so payment on that will wait.

I also learned that my tax statement from...

Good News

January 16th, 2019 at 02:23 PM by klarose

Well we got some good news today.

#1 I was able to pay $510 on the credit cards.

#2 I applied for a new 0% interest credit card for 18 months. And was approved for enough to cover the ENTIRE remaining amount we have on two cards now. So woo hoo. We'll be down to one card and have a good long while to pay it off. Still hoping for the end of the year. I will update my balances once the transfer goes through.

#3 We got a letter in the mail that says we were approved for...

$2 Coffee and Then the Darn Dentist

January 16th, 2019 at 02:21 AM by My English Castle

I led a brainstorming session with colleagues today, spending only$2 on coffee. But then there was the follow-up dental appointment where the hygienist had me somehow convinced that I needed additional lab work to help determine the cause of my periodontal disease. To the tune of $150. I'm glad I decided on the fancy/expensive dental insurance this year. I have a feeling it's going to be an expensive year for my mouth (again).

A thrifty dinner of cauliflower cheese ensued....

collections agent

January 15th, 2019 at 11:02 PM by LivingAlmostLarge

So I got a call from a collections agent. I'm not sure what to do. I refused to pay a $200 bill to frontier because I returned a set-top box and cancelled cable. They said it never returned. However whenever they use the prepaid mailing envelope and search for it they find it. So this has been going on since July 2018. I refused to pay and keep on writing down who I talked to.

Anyway now they turned it over to a collections agency. I'm debating if I should even bother talking...

Pantry and Freezer Use

January 15th, 2019 at 10:23 PM by DK62565

I'm not as good as many of you about just eating from the pantry and freezer, but I have been using things from both. I usually keep some soups and chili in the freezer and we used both in the past couple of weeks. I have stuff canned and I've been using some of it as well.

We did have to go to the store, well, maybe "had to" are not the operative words, but we did go to the store and bought some hamburger, beans, and ground turkey. I wanted to make more Italian wedding soup...

Using Up the Food Progress

January 15th, 2019 at 05:33 PM by Creditcardfree

Here's what I ate yesterday. I think I was a little snacky, so no judgements, please.

1 cup of cereal with milk
2 Cinnamon muffins (this used up the milk and 1 egg)
2 tangerines
Leftover taco meat
2 tomato slices
(ate the two above with cheddar cheese and tostitos)
2 servings of Barley potato soup
The soup used up the potatoes, garlic, celery, chicken broth, the yellow onion, and two carrots)
1 slice of provolone cheese
1 serving of grape juice (I use in my water...

UFMC Days 10-14 + Part of Day 15

January 15th, 2019 at 05:20 PM by Jazzy

First, an update to day 8. Apparently, I had set the electric bill to autopay, and it took out the $367+ even though I'd paid it on the 2nd. For the next month or 2, we'll have a credit on the electric bill. I moved the money from next month's category back to this month to cover it.

Day 10 - College Donation ($15 - It was our day of giving and any amount counted towards the percentage of the class that donated, so I just gave a minimal amount.)

Day 11 - Petsmart ($27 for...

Cheap Lunch

January 15th, 2019 at 02:29 PM by CB in the City

I performed a mystery shop yesterday, evaluating valet service at a hospital. I was required to hang out in the hospital for at least a half hour before getting my car back and going home. At first I went to the Senior Center, where I was told they had a TV and coffee. Well, the TV was blaring Fox News, and the coffee was gone. So I kept going till I found the cafeteria. I ended up buying a large slice of veggie pizza. It was only $2.79 and it was delicious.

Other than...

Week 1 & 2

January 15th, 2019 at 05:11 AM by Shiela

DH had to do a back-up of my computer and then he cleared everything in my computer and then re-installed everything. I think my computer has needed doing that for months now. So I haven’t had time to do my spreadsheet for this year and to write a blog post for the last week.

Anyway, recent spending for the first 2 weeks of this year:

Groceries – Week 1 = $59.09
Week 2 = $72.99 – We went to the market on Sunday, got the sweetest strawberries I’ve ever tasted...

Getting a Bit Tight

January 15th, 2019 at 01:54 AM by My English Castle

We've paid both visa bills completely,so our travel bills are all accounted for. It's going to be a bit tight for the next month as my contractor husband won't get paid for while we're gone.

I haven't taken many steps toward frugality since we've been home, but we could take some steps towards eating through the freezer. Instead we've been doing some cleaning and decluttering. We thoroughly cleaned our fridge, have worked our way through the closet, and I'm cleaning the...

January 15th, 2019 at 12:31 AM by DK62565

Is it just me, or are there some really weird and often mean posts being added to our blogs? I got one today from June and the person said I was a petty gossip. Not sure if this person knows me or not!

Food On Hand

January 14th, 2019 at 03:48 PM by Creditcardfree

My husband is traveling this week. Both of our daughters are back at college. The fridge and pantry are very likely going to be more than adequate to sustain me this week, and maybe through the weekend with my husband home, making it an no spend grocery week!

Before I get to the list of what I have, I will say some of these things are not what I normally eat. The Cheerios were requested by my daughter when she was home. And now they are left here. I did eat Cheerios and milk...

Cabin Fever

January 14th, 2019 at 02:06 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday was one of those days when I didn't go out at all. I will admit I felt a bit of cabin fever. Today I'll be going out to do a mystery shop, so that will get my juices flowing.

I spent $23 on Amazon for some household things and fish food. I ordered two sets of plastic bottles for shampoo, etc. The larger 6" size. I don't intend to use them for travel, but in my shower. Since I've been shopping at Sam's, I have HUGE containers of shampoo, conditioner, and body...

Catching up

January 14th, 2019 at 01:47 PM by PatientSaver

Not much new in Patient Saver's world, but I've always appreciated routine and structure.

The crazy hours at work seem to have abated last week, and this past weekend was the first one in a while where I didn't have to work. I'm not sure we're completely in the clear now as I heard some people had to work on Saturday, but I guess I'll find out more when I go in today.

I am anxious to get all my paperwork together to do my taxes, as I may end up doing them twice....with and...
