reflecting back

February 8th, 2019 at 02:26 AM by LivingAlmostLarge

I've been reflecting back lately on a lot of people talking about the government shutdown and how people are paycheck to paycheck. I do feel bad. Yes I understand they should have planned better. They should have not been living paycheck to paycheck. Hopefully they learned their lesson. Doubtful but maybe.

Doing taxes I see a lot of people living paycheck to paycheck and just trying to make the rent. They take out an advance against their tax refund to make ends meet. I...

Mr. Cheapskate

February 7th, 2019 at 04:23 PM by DK62565

A couple of days ago I went to give blood at a local church. I knew one of the ladies and she was knitting a dish cloth for their "bread ministry" which is if they have a visitor come to church, someone visits with a loaf of bread and a homemade dish cloth to thank them for coming. She said they only had two people making the dish cloths so I volunteered to make some for her. I told her I would give them to a mutual friend to give her. So, I proceeded to make ten dish cloths.

I...

Babysitting

February 7th, 2019 at 04:19 PM by CB in the City

GS2 is not well enough to go to school today, so I am staying with him.

Yesterday was a long day for all of us. There was a half day of school, so I babysat from noon to 3:30, when I took the boys to music lessons. In the process, I picked up another boy who's working on a duet with GS1. Lessons lasted until 5:30, so it was about six when I got home.

I didn't spend any money. I made tacos at home for lunch and had snacks in the car for later. I was planning on going to the...

Day 235

February 7th, 2019 at 08:23 AM by Tina

Out:
milk 2.29
hummus 2.49
popcorn 1.99
crackers 1.49

I went to move my change tin and the bottom fell out. I didn't realise it has a lid, I thought it was sealed like the last one. I didn't want to pay for a new one, so repurposed a 2 liter juice bottle. I wrote the word Britain on it to save for my next trip.

I think being able to see the money in it will be better than the closed container. With the others I was constantly consumed with curiosity about how...

Update on Progress on 2019 Financial Plan

February 7th, 2019 at 02:06 AM by crazyliblady

1) Purchase a used car with saved funds and tax refund by the end of February.

2)Pay down balance on cc #1 to $2000.00 by December 31st.

3) Continue to eat super healthy by growing some of my own food and buy some at the farmer’s market and stores.

4) Contribute any coupon or sales savings to credit card payoff. This is a money game I play.

5) I will also contribute any funds I get from rebates to credit card payoff also.

Bought a Car

February 7th, 2019 at 01:54 AM by crazyliblady

Hey, everyone.

I finally got my tax refund on Tuesday.

Today, I bought a 2007 Chevrolet Impala with cash. I have not had a car in such good condition in years. I had this car fully checked out by mechanics and it passed completely with a couple of minor exceptions that are easily fixed. It needs new brakes and new windshield, mostly. The rest is just basic maintenance stuff. I am so relieved and proud to have accomplished this goal. It's good thing I found a car in such...

It's Closed and Funded!

February 7th, 2019 at 01:38 AM by Petunia 100

What a wonderful feeling of relief!

So the mortgage debt is gone, the Heloc debt is gone, and I have already paid my WF Visa in full. (I had overdrafted due to a bill pay error, so was paying 24.99% daily and could not wait one moment longer than necessary to put an end to that).

Over the next few days, I will be paying my remaining debts in full, sending money to my Roth IRA and various savings accounts, and making a small but (I hope) helpful gift to each of the two people...

Tracking the Spending

February 6th, 2019 at 05:35 PM by Alliecat79

I updated my spending tracker this morning with the baby purchases and groceries purchased yesterday. I overspent $340, but $148.21 of that were purchases for baby items still needed and $140 were for the baby announcements. Without those purchases, I would have been within budget.

I identified that I spent $109.33 eating out. I will try and be kind to myself for the last time as surviving working full time and mothering another child during your last trimester is a beast....

Calm Day

February 6th, 2019 at 02:56 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday was a pretty calm day, and I felt much better than I did the day before. I rested in the morning, and in the afternoon I picked up GS2. He wanted to play at the schoolyard for a while, but it was a little cold for me to sit outside, so I waited in the car while he played. After about twenty minutes he came to the car with a friend of his. The friend's mother had not yet picked him up, so I let him use my phone. Turned out he was supposed to be at orchestra, and he...

Another Payment and Clothes Shopping

February 6th, 2019 at 02:35 PM by klarose

I received one of my web design checks and sent the amount to the credit card. It is now down to five digits!! $9,822!

It's hard to believe that in a little over a month I have already hit over 1/3 of my debt paying goal for the year. I'm knocking it out of the park, I hope it keeps up!

We went through our closets and dressers and managed to pull out 2 trash bags full of clothes to sell, donate, or trash. Then we went shopping and I got 3 pairs of pants and 5 shirts for less...

Day 234

February 6th, 2019 at 08:32 AM by Tina

For some reason I have been unable to log into Everydollar for the last week, which means I am unable to track my expenses for February so far. I think I will do ok without recording as long as I stick to cash and stop spending when I run out - no going into my buffer to get more money, and no borrowing from other envelopes. I do have my change jar if I get desperate.

Some Money Stuff...

February 6th, 2019 at 12:15 AM by Creditcardfree

Here's some random money related tidbits:

I redeemed 2500 Swagbucks for $25, which has been deposited in my PayPal account. I also did a Pinecone survey, so I expect $3 will be added to PayPal tomorrow. All money will go to the Big Goal.

We have confirmed that an access code my daughter purchased and realized she didn't need will be credited to her bill by February 15. This is after the bill to the University is due, but we were told to just pay the balance minus the expected...

Rough Day (and Night)

February 5th, 2019 at 04:21 PM by CB in the City

I started out so tired yesterday, coming off a short night's sleep. I had things to do, however -- a trip to the gym, and then to Sam's, where I bought kitty litter ($14) and groceries ($16). Then I came home to get ready for a mystery shop, which involved a preliminary phone call. On the phone call, I got some odd responses, so I contacted my scheduler to see if I should actually proceed with the shop. He said no, so I was free of that obligation. So I did a load of laundry,...

January recap

February 5th, 2019 at 03:30 PM by kashi

In January I went over budget in several categories but under in several others. One category that went over was travel. I'm taking a beach vacation with some friends in March...so looking forward to it!! We've never done anything like this before, but since one friend in our group moved out of state last year, it will be wonderful to have a long weekend together. I haven't been to the ocean since 2011...long overdue for a beach-lover like me.

I also spent too much in my top...

Baby is here!!!

February 5th, 2019 at 02:59 PM by Alliecat79

Baby is here! Safe and sound. We are at home and adjusting to our new life. Some health, wellness and financial wins are that breastfeeding is all a go, including already pumping and freezing a small supply. Need to call the insurance today to make sure BCBS will cover at least most of the rental fee for the hospital grade pump that was recommended by the lactation consultant.

While I was all ready with newborn cloth diapers, when we had the circumcision done I was reminded...
