Auto Insurance

July 14th, 2020 at 11:47 PM by Amber

So glad that I checked, there was a time that I’d stick with the insurance company paying crazy rates, now I have no problem switching.

Geico sent my renewal, I felt like I did not receive the discount, called and got another quote with a different company, I’ll be saving $114.78 and for me, every little bit helps, so I’m switching.

Tomorrow is tax day and my deposit is scheduled to hit, I can’t wait to add more to my student loans.

Debt and money

July 14th, 2020 at 07:13 PM by Raquel

Ugh. It is just a lot.

Timeline on some of the debt:
Wells Fargo - They offered a settlement. They will take $400 some odd dollars and allow us to pay $79.58/ month. So we could pay that off in about 6 months.

Car Loan = 14 months
Loan = 17 months
Care Credit = 12 months

On our mortgage, that is our mortgage, insurance, and taxes. Its at 4% interest.

I had to take some money from our savings to finish paying our taxes. Its down to $426

Other budget issues:

Hopes for the Car, and Grocery Plans

July 14th, 2020 at 03:41 PM by CB in the City

My car MAY be ready today. That's if the part comes in, and if they have time to fix it after that. I'm really not expecting that it will be ready. I just hope it will be ready tomorrow.

Plans for today are doing a load of laundry, cleaning in the kitchen, and finishing the book I'm reading.

Food stores are holding up well, but when I get the car I will fill in the gaps. For instance, I have sandwich rolls in the freezer, but no filling for them. I have no milk of any...

Taco Salad

July 14th, 2020 at 03:33 PM by terri77

I made my own taco seasoning for the first time & I’m not sure why I never thought to do it before now. Thank you, Pinterest. Last night I had taco salad minus chips for my lean & green. I made enough for the week. I bought the fat free ranch for dressing, but then remembered that usually reduced fat products are better than fat free as they replace the fat with sugars. I’ll do better next time. 🥗🌮

Pondering the Pandemic

July 14th, 2020 at 09:33 AM by Fern

I'm going to have to cut my own hair.

Someone else here mentioned they scheduled some haircuts, but I'm not ready to venture there yet. It's long overdue and my hair is longer than I like it, but gosh, the haircutter has to stand so close to you, breathing down on you as you sit there....I just can't go there yet. I'd sooner hack at my own hair and if it's crooked, so be it. It will grow out again.

I used Instacart for the first time yesterday. (See my separate post on that.)...

Shopping Strategies During a Pandemic: Instacart Review

July 14th, 2020 at 08:29 AM by Fern

On a whim, I decided to try using Instacart for the first time yesterday to save a trip to the grocery store.

I've avoided one of my favorite stores, Aldi's, since mid-March because I didn't like the idea of brushing past other shoppers in their narrow aisles. So when I saw they made home deliveries by partnering with Instacart, I jumped on it.

I have to say, the Instacart interface worked flawlessly, was a breeze to use and offered way more flexibility than I'd anticipated.

I...

Paid Extra on the Student Loan

July 14th, 2020 at 03:14 AM by Amber

I’m so close to paying off one of my student loans I can taste it.

I decided to take half of the money I saved for my bedroom set and throw it at the student loans. That leaves me with about $1,000 to go before I start tackling the principal and it feels great.

I don’t know why but I feel like God wants me to get rid of this sucker. Yes the bedroom set is falling apart but if I can get used I’ll be fine. Plus I can wait a little bit.

Wednesday my taxes hit and...

July 2020 update

July 13th, 2020 at 08:28 PM by kashi

Holy moly, time has flown by!

- March 2019 - went on an awesome girls' trip to Florida

- May 2019 - I was dancing by myself in my living room, did a majestic leap into the air, fell, and broke my foot. I'd never broken anything before. Surgery followed, then several weeks of recovery, used a knee scooter at home and at work, and basically lost the whole summer.

- August 2019 - did allergy testing since I blew through my deductible and found out that the only thing they...

Monday Musings

July 13th, 2020 at 07:25 PM by CB in the City

Yesterday my ex dropped by with a check to cover half of my ceiling repair and the car repair. I am pretty flummoxed. I don't know where this sudden generosity is coming from, but right now I won't look a gift horse in the mouth! I feel quite relieved. I won't have to go into debt.

I let my contractor know that he can schedule the repair at his convenience. I hope the heat will let up enough to let him do it.

My son sent over some Irish butter and syrup. When he picked...

Where is it all going???

July 13th, 2020 at 05:14 PM by Raquel

So, I am spending too much. I am going to list my budget below but....I looked at our statement and we are spending so much money on FOOOOOD! Ordering in and drive thrus! Plus groceries. I have to get a handle on this. Especially since we have debt repayments now. But I broke my leg/ankle in 3 places a few months ago and damaged ligaments. I had surgery and am just now able to walk and cook and work. But sometimes at the end of the day, I don't want to cook! So what do...

What’s Cooking?

July 12th, 2020 at 09:51 PM by terri77

I’ve been doing some cooking since I’ve started working with a health coach. The goal of my meals are to keep them lean & green. I’ve made sheet pan chicken fajitas, garlic burgers with lemon butter zucchini noodles, shrimp with mashed and riced cauliflower, and roasted broccoli. I keep finding shrimp on sale which is good because I love it & you can eat a lot of it for your lean protein. I’ve bought so many variations of mashed & riced cauliflower. The two that I have...

Breakfast For A Dollar

July 12th, 2020 at 08:18 PM by Wink

I went to the grocery store today and spent $62.05. I am well stocked for the next two weeks. Aldi had a great sale on eggs at .49 cents a dozen (large eggs). I picked up two cartons. Just for fun, and because I am somewhat bored, I calculated the cost of breakfast each day using the eggs, toast, butter and coffee:

2 eggs: .08 cents (this would be more usually, but I am using the Aldi’s sale eggs)
1 slice of bread: .20 cents
Butter on toast: .10 cents (not exactly sure...

Sunday, Sunday

July 12th, 2020 at 06:01 PM by DK62565

We had quite the storm last night -- high winds, hail, rain, all in a matter of minutes. Due to the storms, many were without power in our area. We were fortunate that ours only flickered a couple of times, but just a couple of streets over, they were without power for hours. DH was absolutely worried about his garden. I think most of it fared well.

We went to church. Some could not make it due to the storm damage. One couple was blocked in their own place due to a fallen tree....

Headache

July 12th, 2020 at 12:49 PM by CB in the City

I battled a headache all day yesterday. It finally started letting up around bedtime. Maybe watching "My Fair Lady" did it. One of the sillier musicals, but I love Audrey Hepburn, and the music.

I am in full scrimping mode. Since I had to return my groceries on Friday, and I don't have transportation, I am making do with what I have. I can walk to Walgreens if I must, and I can always ask my son to get something if I have to have it, but I am going to try to power through...

Victory!

July 11th, 2020 at 03:37 PM by terri77

After 4 months of wrangling with the travel insurance company they are cutting me a check for my canceled flights to Montreal. 🇨🇦 I only got a credit for the Switzerland trip, but I can use the money for any destination. 🇨🇭 I have no plans to travel anytime soon. Probably not until next year at the earliest.

I am staying busy with work. Making plans to have some work done on my patio and trying to decide on a new comforter. The latest one that I tried to purchase...

Car Repair

July 11th, 2020 at 12:43 PM by CB in the City

Well, I did not luck out with the car repair. I went to AutoZone, and learned there that it was a problem with the coolant sensor. I took the car to Kia, but they had just had two mechanics quit, and they couldn't take me until Thursday. They did assure me that driving my car till then would not be a problem. I went to Aldi and bought $28 worth of groceries, came out and tried to start the car -- couldn't. After I gave up, I called AAA and then returned the groceries, since...
