life is good...but getting better!!

October 14th, 2025 at 06:05 AM by mumof2

So we are moving...eventually...we dont have a date that we have to move out by so we are taking the time to find a rental that will suit us better and have the room we want...although it will cost more because rents are ridiculous right now. But it also given me time to go through each room (which I am still doing) and get rid of what we dont want/use/need anymore. We have a storage unit which is pretty full that we have put stuff in that we need but dont use all the time ...

Day 10

October 13th, 2025 at 12:06 AM by PatientSaver

OK, so I needed to come up with a photo today, but it's been so cold, dreary and now rainy that I haven't really ventured outside. So I had to delve into my photo gallery to pick something recent. I imagine you are getting tired of my many plant photos, so here's another dish I enjoyed at that favorite cafe in town I told you I visited last week with my father.
This dish is "meatball salad." Each meatball is the size of 3 regular meatballs. It's delicious.

It's Raining Grants

October 12th, 2025 at 07:04 PM by Monkey Mama

2025 is the year of Grants, for our household.
MH was instrumental in getting a grant for the cable access show that he works on.  This grant was secured last year but took some months to come through.  It's not a lot, but MH is receiving $50 every time he works in the studio or works an event.  He also just received a reimbursement for some dues he needs to pay to access the public studio.  That's $460 for 5 months.  (He missed out on at least $100,...

Art Deco

October 12th, 2025 at 06:59 PM by Monkey Mama

Oct 11

MH & I attended an event at a historic theater in our city.  The theater was built in 1912.
It was a selection of short films from local film makers.  There's always a handful of people (usually actors) who dress like they are going to the Oscars.   In addition to some unique characters.  Definitely an artistic group.

Day 9

October 11th, 2025 at 11:43 PM by PatientSaver

I have a small collection of head planters. They're not looking too spiffy at the moment, but they look great with the right kind of plant in there.

I had an incredibly productive day.
* I took a small pussy willow cutting from my one pussy willow shrub back in APRIL, and the poor thing sat in water all these months. I wanted to plant it sooner but couldn't find the right spot for it. It needs a lot of room but also needs sun. I tucked it in the ground today, FINALLY. It had...

Some Views

October 11th, 2025 at 04:30 AM by Monkey Mama

Oct 9

I just looked out my bathroom window in the morning, and the combo of the clouds and the (tiny) moon was interesting.  I was surprised this turned out through my very small and dirty window.  😁
Oct 10

The weather cooperated (and life cooperated), and so I did well on walks this week.
This was a sunset walk in my neighborhood.

Day 8 photo challenge

October 10th, 2025 at 03:17 PM by PatientSaver

We had our first frost last night, which reminded me of the days when I used to do the No Heat Challenge. Ha! As I get older, I appreciate creature comforts more. Though the heat is still OFF; just threw 2 blankets on the bed.
This week I reviewed Kiva loans from Kazakhstan, Ghana and Philippines.
I was just thinking about what photo I would post today when Nature decided for me! Saw this beautiful bobcat pass through my yard just now.

Catching Up

October 10th, 2025 at 11:59 AM by DK62565

It's been a bit since I've last blogged. It has taken me some time to read other's posts because of it. Life has been busy. Between trying to get things done outside and then an "assignment," I've been staying busy. Perhaps not out of trouble, but busy.
With a garden comes the clean up. First pulled up the last of the onions, and then the tomato plants. We tilled it up and put fertilizer on it so things can rest over winter. We are enlarging the garden some since we felt like...

Photo-a-day game! Photo 2: Preconstructed dinner

October 9th, 2025 at 11:40 PM by ceejay74

I remembered to take a photo while I was prepping dinner. Not very aesthetic or exciting but here tis! This is a recipe called Pasta Della California from the cookbook Veganomicon by Isa Chandra Moskowicz. I don't know when we started topping it with chopped up vegan chikn nuggets, but that was part of it (not pictured).
It contains lime juice and zest, garlic, chili flakes, salt, veggie broth, white wine, broccoli, arugula and avocado. Usually I do it with linguine but had to...

Day 7 photo challenge

October 9th, 2025 at 11:17 PM by PatientSaver

Took my father to physical therapy yesterday and then one of our favorite cafes for lunch. I'm not even sure of everything that was in these, but they were soooo good: tostadas topped with potato, feta cheese, avocado, diced red peppers, a fried egg, black bean spread, oh my. Not a low calorie meal, that's for sure!

Late entrant into the photo-a-day game! Photo 1: kid and cat

October 9th, 2025 at 04:25 AM by ceejay74

I've been wanting to get more active on the blogs again for, like, years, but the things I need and love to do have just expanded and filled every nook and cranny of my life, it seems. So blogging at the level I used to just seemed daunting. This photo game feels like a low-stakes (in terms of time and mental effort) way to hang out with y'all more, so I'm going to try. If I happen to take a photo and if I happen to remember to post it, I shall.
This was the only pic I took today....

It's a Car

October 8th, 2025 at 03:57 PM by Monkey Mama

Oct 7

I hadn't really thought about it until I started typing, but it seems to be a big 'car buying' year in my office.
Our newest employee bought this car.  I get the sense she can afford it.  This post isn't about Americans and their car debt.
This car sits outside my window, and so I just see people constantly stopping to salivate over the car.  Seriously, the way people check it out!
I do not *get* it.  I always say I feel like I am from...

Oct 6 Photo

October 8th, 2025 at 03:26 PM by Monkey Mama

Oct 6

I hadn't ventured outside this month.  I am really thrown off kilter re: vacation (catching up at work), MH's travels (covering at home), MH coming home sick (which means more covering at home), etc.  But I did make it outside for a walk in the middle of the work day.
This is an area between my work building and the work building where MM(22) interned a few summers ago.  I presume it's the in-between office that puts out bowls of water in the summer and...

Day 6 photo challenge

October 8th, 2025 at 01:29 PM by PatientSaver

This was last night's dinner: a quick stir fry with snow peas from my garden, broccoli florets, mushrooms and cashews over jasmine rice. I'm so happy a few others are doing the Photo Challenge! Makes it more fun!
.

We are finally getting some much needed rain today. Not driving rain, just a nice light to medium rain.
We're expecting a possible first frost Thursday night, which may signal the end of my herbicide treatment of tree of heaven seedlings. I'm just anxious to do...

Day 5 photo challenge

October 7th, 2025 at 10:03 PM by PatientSaver

OK, with this photo I'm caught up with the daily photo challenge. It shows the new chandeleir ("sputnik" design) my handyman installed this morning. I like modern stuff. I liked the one I had before, which was more traditional, but, well, after 16 years living with it, time for a change.

Aside from that, the only meaningful things I did today was write a two-sided handout for a presentation my invasive plants group is putting on at the senior center this week....
