Is Target Closed on Veteran’s Day 2022?

November 7, 2022 by Melissa Batai

Is Target Closed on Veteran's Day?

As we head into the fall and winter months, the United States celebrates several holidays, some designated as federal holidays. For example, in October through December, we celebrate Columbus Day (or Indigenous People’s Day, depending on your location), Halloween, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas (or Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, or Boxing Day, depending on your religion and country of origin). With so many holidays to celebrate and buy for, you may wonder, is Target closed on Veteran’s Day? What about other department stores?

About Veteran’s Day

The United States celebrates many holidays, but only 11 are federal holidays recognized by the government. Veteran’s Day is one of those holidays. Interestingly, Veteran’s Day is one of five holidays celebrated on the same day every year, regardless of what day of the week it falls on. The other four “fixed date” holidays are New Year’s Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, and Christmas Day.

Veteran’s Day was originally designed to celebrate the Armistice from World War I, which, at the time, was dubbed the “The Great War.” In addition, the armistice, which occurred on November 11, 1918, was called the end “of the war to end all wars.”

Unfortunately, only two decades later, World War II began. After World War II ended, the focus of Veteran’s Day changed from the armistice of World War I to a day to honor veterans of all wars.

In 1938, Veteran’s Day, then called Armistice Day, became a legal federal holiday. Later, the name was changed to Veteran’s Day.

Is Target Closed on Veteran’s Day 2022?

Target is not closed on Veteran’s Day. Target will be open regular hours on November 11, 2022, Veteran’s Day. Typically, Target is open from eight a.m. to ten p.m., but you should verify those hours with your local store.

On What Holidays Does Target Close?

Like many retail stores in the United States, Target only closes for a few holidays. Specifically, Target began closing completely on Thanksgiving Day in 2020 during the pandemic. Target has recently announced that the move will be permanent. The retailer no longer ever plans to open on Thanksgiving Day. In addition, Target closes completely on Easter Sunday and Christmas Day.

Target does have shortened store hours for two other days—Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve. Last year, Target was open from seven a.m. to eight p.m. on Christmas Eve, but you’ll need to check your local Target’s hours.

Will Target Have Veteran’s Day Sales?

While Target may not have specific Veteran’s Day sales, the store is offering early Black Friday sales, so you should be able to score some deals.

Is Target Closed on Veteran's Day?

In addition, if you’re a veteran, you can apply for a military discount from October 30 to November 12. You will need to take steps beforehand to receive your military discount.

Final Thoughts

Is Target closed on Veteran’s Day 2022? No, it’s open regular hours, and the chain has already started early Black Friday deals. You can save even more if you’re a veteran who registers beforehand.
