How Much Money Do Youtubers Make?

May 4, 2017 by Amanda Blankenship

How much do youtubers make
There are some pretty large numbers behind Youtube. Take the number of visitors on the site per day, for instance. It sits at 30 million. Almost 5 billion videos are watched on the streaming website every day and there are 1.3 billion regular Youtube visitors around the world.

With all those large numbers in mind, one more question comes to mind. How much money do Youtubers make?

How Much Money Do Youtubers Make?

When the video streaming website posted its first video on April 23, 2005 no one thought it would blow up to be as big as it did. Now the site pays the bills of thousands of vloggers around the world. How much are they getting paid though?

Well, it depends on the Youtube channel, how many subscribers the Youtuber has and what other advertisers they may be working with. Generally Youtubers make somewhere between $1.50 and $4 for every 1,000 views their channel receives.

For many Youtubers they may post a really great hit video one week and the next week’s may bomb. It seems that the magic number is in the number of subscribers you have. If a Youtuber reaches 1 million subscribers about 10 percent (100,000) will check out a new video when you post it. This almost insures the Youtuber gets paid for each video they post.

Additionally, the topic of the Youtube video can affect the answer to “how much money do Youtubers make.” If a Youtuber tends to post on trending topics the percentage of subscribers views can jump to 30 to 40 percent.

All of this leads to a domino effect of sorts. The more subscribers you have, the more views, the higher your rank on Youtube and the more chances for exposure you have (making the income you’re able to pull in higher). So how do these Youtubers make money?

How to Make Money on Youtube

There is a lot of revenue to be had where Youtube is concerned. Successful Youtubers like Jenna Marbles or Michelle Phan have been able to pull in six figures a year from the video streaming site. How are they so successful?

The Youtube channels that do well have a specific audience and specific topics. Michelle Phan, for instance, provides makeup tutorials, tips and even brand suggestions through her Youtube channel. After she’d posted for a while her videos started to gain some traction and now she is one of the highest earning Youtubers out there. In fact, there are more than two dozen Youtubers that have net worths over $1 million.

Once a successful Youtuber has a topic (or audience) in mind they create the video and then promote it. This could mean promoting your work across social media, sharing it with friends or paying others to promote it for you. After a while (or after the video goes viral) they accrue a huge number of subscribers and are able to make regular money through Youtube for videos views (remember about 10 percent of all subscribers click and you get $1.50 to $4 for every 1,000).
