  • Both cars break down at once

Not a bad dream but reality for us yesterday.

I still don't know what is wrong w/my 1996 Dodge Carvam but it died right after I picked up my twins at their occupational therapy playgroup. It is the shop... thinking it is fuel line. Mine needed to be towed $50

Hubby's car started overheating when he came to the rescue. It was his water pump. A very expensive one to the tune of $1400. We took the money out of our emergency fund. We will find out the damage on mine tomorrow which should come out of emergency fund as well. Our emergency fund will be down very low. And we are heading on vacation next week...

What can you say to something like that? Just terrible luck. The one positive though is that you did prepare yourself and have an emergency fund. Things would be far worse if you didn't.

It is a step back in your saving, but you will make it up quickly and it seems you aren't going into credit card debt to get them fixed. That is very impressive. I don't know too many people who could have 2 cars break down at the same time and not put a big chunk of it on their credit cards.

      Theresa,

I'm very sorry to hear that. When it decides to rain, it certainly does pour. I have my fingers crossed that the cost of repairing the 2nd car is not too much.

I am also impressed with your emergency fund. It's never fun to use, but that is why you created it...for unexpected events like this. It just goes to show that you have your finances in order!

Oh, that's terrible!!! I wouldn't know what to do if that happened to me. I would cry for the rest of the month if not longer!

How did things turn out. I'm hoping that the cost to repair the second car wasn't too much.

I had a car break down on me in the middle of the desert once. It cost over $100 to tow it to the nearest service station and since they were the only place within miles around, they wanted a small fortune to fix it.

I have been away on vacation.

My 1996 caravan came to just under $600 and that was with new tires too. Hubby said we needed them.

So about $2k down in our emgerency fund. I don't like it being this low but it is a better option than putting it on our credit cards. I am stopping our snowball on the credit cards to put the $2k back into our emergency fund.

              Hello,

I am new and this is my first post, but I had to share something with you.

My grandmother told us that " No matter how bad you have it someone else has it worse"

Hi, my name should be "worse".

ALL 3 of the vehicles we have are broken down, and we dont have an emergency fund!!!

Dont worry, we have borrowed an extra car from my MIL, so we arent walking the 52 miles to work.

I just wanted to share, so that you know, someone else has/is in the same boat.

I am so glad you got your car fixed in time for your vacation.

              Hugs, Kristean
